Fire Retardant Coatings

Fire safety is increasingly important in all construction projects and TFS offer several solutions, including innovative fire retardant coatings. As recent events have shown, fire by its very nature is a frightening aspect of building safety. Architects and building engineers face a myriad of issues when attempting to design fire control mechanisms into buildings and structures. TFS already offer substrates with factory applied Class 0 foils, backed up by independent certification. The latest development is a range of independently certified fire retardant coatings.

Fire retardant coatings maintaining structural integrity

TFS fire retardant coatings are applied under factory controlled conditions, using ISO9001:2015 quality assured processes. This ensures full compliance with the manufacturer’s specification and avoids the vagaries and potentially lethal consequences of in-situ application. The options available include ProStruct FR, which is certified to Euroclass B-s1, d0 CE2+ structural (wall sheathing) for permanent use. This provides a high performance coating which does not impact on the structural integrity of the substrate, as would be the case with traditional pressure impregnation methods. Consequently, this means the panels are suitable for both permanent and temporary structural applications. Therefore, TFS fire retardant coatings can be used as structural design elements in timber frame construction.

Panels have been tested to obtain a Euroclass B rating and are EN 13501-1 approved. Euroclass B is the highest harmonised European classification relevant to timber, effectively replacing the old Class 0 standard. Performance is fully supported by independent fire certification carried out by Exova Warringtonfire. Exova Warrington is a respected world leader in providing certification in support of fire safety.

Fire retardant coatings are also available applied to other substrates. All are water based, non-solvent treatments. We offer coatings as a clear treatment that preserves the natural appearance of the substrate. In addition, they are available in a choice of coloured intumescent coatings.
