Trade Fabrication Systems awarded USA patent for peel clean technology

Panel processor set to open international market through strategic partnerships

Trade Fabrication Systems (TFS), the UK’s leading processor of wood-based panel products, has been awarded a USA patent for its TradeCoat ProteX peel clean technology, giving the company a platform for international expansion through the development of strategic partnerships.

With BBA certification, this advanced peel clean flooring system has already been proven to deliver the most robust peel clean protection in the UK market. Following the new patent award (US 11,536,035 B2) in December last year, TFS is inviting expressions of interest from USA based panel manufacturers and mill operators to license the manufacturing technology for local use.

TradeCoat ProteX is commonly applied to OSB, particleboard and plywood, where the panels will be used as flooring and roof sheathing in new build houses. By protecting the floor during construction, TradeCoat ProteX eliminates the water ingress which results in swollen joints and structural degradation. It also significantly reduces the cleaning required prior to handover. When considering the whole build process, TradeCoat ProteX delivers both time and cost savings for housing developers, as compared with using raw boards.

Howard Morris, Managing Director at TFS, explains why peel clean technology represents a commercial opportunity for USA manufacturers: “Peel clean systems are the most cost-effective solution for maintaining a floor’s structural integrity while keeping it safe and weather protected while new homes are under construction.

“TradeCoat ProteX builds value into commodity panels which will ultimately enable USA manufacturers to maintain and increase product margins as markets come under further price pressure.”

Howard Morris has been a pioneer in peel clean technology since the original concept of peel clean flooring was developed in the early 1980s. Having held senior management positions at Norbord and Weyerhaeuser during his 40-year career, Howard recognises the growth potential for this product. “Since it was first launched, peel clean has been used in more than five million UK homes, saving housebuilders time and money in ‘pre-handover’ cleaning of their floors, and at the same time providing weather protection to exposed boards during the build process.

“We’ve invested in the continuous development of our peel clean flooring systems, which means they have kept pace with industry advances over the years. TradeCoat ProteX has been a huge success in the UK and now, thanks to the new patent, we’re able to make the technology available to USA manufacturers who are looking to enhance their market position.”
