Behind the scenes at TFS – Maria Wenton

At TFS we’re committed to harnessing the individual talents of our colleagues and discovering what motivates them to perform their roles to the best of their ability.

This time, we’re going “behind the scenes at TFS” to find out more about our Sales Office Manager, Maria Wenton.

After joining the team around two years ago, Maria took time to reflect on her fantastic journey with TFS so far, her goals and ambitions for the future, and how the past is instrumental in shaping the future.

It’s safe to say that Maria’s long-spanning career within the construction and offsite processing industries informs her current role at TFS and has provided an excellent foundation for the skills Maria has gained and projects she works on.

Maria is encouraged to use her strong personal skills and previous contacts to develop new and existing customer relationships, which is integral to TFS’ achievements. She has also grasped the opportunity to become a key member of the team, successfully navigating the nuances of a manufacturing business, which are very different from distribution.

Here is what Maria had to say…

“I’ve been in the construction industry for around 40 years, as I started when I was only 16. Over the course of my career, I’ve worked with independent merchants and distributors and major merchants and distributors, too. It’s been incredibly valuable to spend time getting to grips with how the industry operates and seeing it evolve over the decades.

“My first role in industry was purely administrative. The company I worked with was very small and eventually grew into a 5-million-pound enterprise, with over 60 staff members. Over time, I became the Office Manager, which included managing a team, being responsible for the warehouse, and ultimately the stock.

“I joined TFS around two years ago, and time has definitely flown. I work as part of a wonderful team that truly values building relationships with clients and colleagues alike.

“TFS encourages all its staff to be the best they can be. They take apprentices and give them experience and confidence to be even better in their jobs and take on new challenges.

It was clear from the start that they believed in me. They encourage training and are always looking to expand the portfolio of skills the company has to offer, which reinforces that everyone matters at TFS.

“I am really enjoying my role, and I think that a lot of that is down to the excellent working culture at TFS and the open-door policy. Everyone feels valued and it’s great to be able to chat through queries.

“My roles and responsibilities are really varied, and no day is ever the same! I oversee a lot of HR and health and safety-related tasks. I also assist Adam Morris, the General Manager, with the buying side of things. This is a part of the job that I really love as I can exercise my negotiation skills!

“I would definitely like to gain more skills and knowledge within these areas in the coming months. I’m always looking to learn new things, and I know that I’m encouraged to keep reaching for more. I can’t wait to grow my career with help from TFS!”
